The Airport
Kavala
International Airport
“Megas Alexandros” is one of the best equipped airports
of southern Europe. Due to the
combination of the sunny
Mediterranean and the stable southern continental
climates the weather conditions are ideal for training
for both visual and instrument flights.
VOR/DME,
and NDB locator are available at the airport while an
ILS is soon to be installed. In the meantime the nearby
Thessaloniki airport ILS will be used for instrument
landing training. Another two ILS equipped nearby
airports are also used for training purposes.
There are
two very long runways available 5R – 23L (3000m x 45m)
and 5L – 23R (3000m x 30m), comfortable aircraft parking
space, full ATC service and many more that makes the
airport ideal for training.
There are
a number of daily flights to and from Athens and some flights
other European Airports. During the summer many
international flights bring holidaymakers to the popular nearby Island
of Thasos and other nearby areas.
The busy Thessaloniki airport (SKG/LGTS) is now only 90
minutes away by car with regular inexpensive busses to
Kavala, and it can be used as an alternative arrival or
departure airport. The quieter airport of
Alexandroupolis (AXD/LGAL) is even closer than
Thessaloniki airport, but with less frequent bus
schedule.

Our facilities
The majority of the former
passenger’s terminal of the airport is hosting our
facilities. The 580m2 (6,200 ft2)
area includes our modern offices, classrooms and the
simulator room. We have designed large classrooms,
modern briefing rooms and direct access to the apron. The office refurbishment was
completed in June 2006 and the original airport terminal
was transformed from an abandoned building to one of the
most modern FTO offices in the world!
